Worried about your kids’ safety? The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s recently-launched Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) aims to improve public safety and modernize crime prevention in the area with the help of community input.
The RTIC will serve as the county’s “central hub, analyzing and sharing real-time information to enable rapid response to crime and public safety threats, equipping officers with advanced tools to better protect themselves and the community,” according to a news release.
“We invested in the new [RTIC] because we knew it would be a game-changer for public safety in Anne Arundel County,” County Executive Steuart Pittman says in the February release, adding that real-time data allows first responders to act faster and
more effectively.
One of the RTIC’s key programs, “Community Connect,” allows residents to register their home security cameras to help support crime prevention. For example, if a crime occurs in your neighborhood, police may ask you to share relevant video footage, which could serve as important evidence. Staff at the RTIC will review the video; the police department doesn’t have live access to residential security camera feeds.
“This real-time access is invaluable during emergencies like active assailant events or violent crimes, enabling more effective law enforcement responses,” according to the release.
